Carpal Tunnel Injections
Corticosteroid injections near the carpal tunnel is a common procedure for treating carpal tunnel syndrome. Steroids not only reduce connective tissue swelling, but they also alleviate pressure on the median nerve.
Step One
Carpal tunnel injection is a simple outpatient procedure that requires minimal preparation. Following x-rays, a combination of anesthetic and anti-inflammatory (steroid) medication are injected in the target area.
Step Two
Following the injection, some numbness is common. However, recovery time for this procedure is minor. Patients will be asked to wait for 30-40 minutes after the procedure, but may return to work the same day.
Step Three
It may take up to three days before patients experience pain relief. Carpal tunnel injections are effective for up to ten weeks for most people. However, this is not a long-term treatment and symptoms will persist after a period of time.
