Asthma

Asthma is a chronic lung disease characterized by inflammation and narrowing of the airways. Symptoms include coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and chest tightness.

Allergic Rhinitis

Allergic rhinitis (hay fever) develops when the body’s immune system overreacts to something in the environment, such as pollen, pets, dust mites, and mold.

Food Allergies

Food allergies occur when the immune system overreacts to the ingestion of certain foods. Although they are most common in infants and children, they can appear at any age.

Atopic Dermatitis

Atopic dermatitis (also known as eczema) is a type of skin rash that causes dry, red, irritated, and itchy skin in children and adults. People with eczema often have a family history of allergies.

Urticaria

Hives or welts, also known as urticaria, are itchy, raised, reddish areas on the skin. About a quarter of the general population can have hives during their lifetime. Hives often appear without warning and can start at any age.

What to Expect During Allergy Testing

Prior to allergy testing, you will meet with a specialist to discuss your symptoms, medical history, family history, and other factors that will help to determine which allergy test to use. Patients may also be asked to stop using certain medications in the days before testing.

Allergy Shots & Biologics

Allergy shots and biologics are used to treat patients with a wide range of chronic conditions, including allergic rhinitis, asthma, atopic dermatitis, stinging insects hypersensitivity, rhinoconjunctivitis, rhinosinusitis and eosinophilic esophagitis. These treatments are usually only recommended for patients with serious symptoms that have not improved with lifestyle changes and medications.

Allergy Shots

  • Used when symptoms are not responding to medications or if patients do not want to use long-term medications
  • Prevent sensitization to new allergens in some patients
  • Improve patient quality of life and reliance on medication
  • Are approved for allergic rhinoconjunctivitis, allergic asthma, atopic dermatitis, and stinging insect allergies

Biologics

  • Used as specialized add-on medications for severe asthma, chronic hives, atopic dermatitis, eosinophilic esophagitis, and chronic rhino sinusitis with nasal polyps
  • Targets proteins, cytokines, and cells that are responsible for the underlying allergic inflammation
