Interspinous posterior device (ISPD) is a term used to identify a group of implants used to treat various spinal conditions. This kind of device is classified as part of the group of the dynamic stabilization systems of the spine. ISPD is used as an easier alternative to lumbar decompressive surgery, or stabilization of the spine, by using a minimally invasive device to be implanted in between the spinous processes of the lumbar area of the spine. The device needs to maintain or create a permanent space between two or more spinous processes, therefore promoting enlargement of the spinal canal and neural structures, all while preserving the current health of the bone. Options should include motion preservation, fusion, and temporary stabilization. Although there are few products available on the market, we are conducting experiments to find an alternative design that is more effective and associated with fewer complications.
